What is a 'Non Linear' book?

Well, ‘linear’ means a ‘straight line.’ Most books you read this way (in a straight path from front to back cover). A NON LINEAR book means that you do not read it like a ‘normal’ book. You get to make choices and turn to different pages to keep following the option you want. You have control over the story, and you have the power! Non linear books are interactive and fun!

How long does it take you to create a nonlinear book?

It takes me about week to plan an epic adventure, 2 weeks to write the story, then another few weeks to make sure that all the different paths make sense! Then, I start working on the clues, codes and illustrations required. After that comes the editing, re-reading, more editing etc. All in all, it took me about two months to craft the first casebook.

Is Ryder a boy or a girl?

Thyme Ryder is a kid detective extraordinaire! The Lead Detective of La Aevum Academy’s Primary Division! Your P.I.C (Partner In Crime.) Is that person a boy or a girl? Does it matter? YOU CHOOSE (that’s kind of the idea of this book!)

When did you start writing?

I started writing in Primary School. I still remember the best story I ever wrote. It was a fictional diary about the botanist on Captain Cook’s ship and his adventures in Australia. I still remember the week I finished it. It was the same time I won a Book Week competition for designing a book cover. The cover was for The Little Mermaid. I drew the body and glued a photo of my head onto it! The best part? The competition prize was a book! I still have it today.

How can I be an author?

Good writers are good readers. I believe that everyone should read widely and read often.

As for the author part, you should follow your dreams and continuously work to get better. My dream was always to be the youngest author in Australia. I decided that at 11 years of age. What happened next? A TEN year old was published! I didn’t let it beat me. I kept reading. I kept writing. I kept working towards my dream. That’s what I would encourage you to do as well.
