Hi Kids!

I’m Thyme Ryder, time-travelling kid detective extraordinaire!

I am the Lead Detective of the Junior Division at La Aevum Academy – a special sleuthing school established by the one and only Sherlock Holmes!

Using The Timepiece, a special gadget powered by crystals and magic, we can manipulate time and space, teleporting into the past to solve mysteries through history.

I need YOU to solve the case and save the day.

YOU make the choices. YOU get to navigate your own way through the case. YOU get to interview the suspects, inspect the crime scene, and get hands on with the clues. Come help me crack the codes, travel across ancient lands, and learn about the cultures of the world.

Figure out who the culprit is and get an A grade on your La Aevum Academy report card!

Come join me on our first case into Ancient Egypt. A crime has been committed in the royal palace and Pharaoh Cleopatra needs your help to crack the case!

Dear Parents,

Thyme Ryder and the cases of the La Aevum Detective Academy have been designed to engage all junior fiction readers in interactive crime cases where they are not just a reader- they must engage in the story and act as the detective. Ryder acts as a guide to your reader as they work their way through the case.

The La Aevum Academy books are interactive and non-linear ‘pick-your-path’ narratives, meaning they engage readers through activities and choice of reading path. Visual, Written and kinaesthetic (hands on) modes are able to be accessed through this novel. Your child will engage in critical thinking, deductive reasoning and  problem solving, through activities such cryptography, pattern recognition, map reading and using cardinal directions, using mathematical equations, data comparison and analysis tasks (to name a few). The ‘casebook’ can be read in a number of ways, with a cypher wheel to construct to assist in decoding different clues and cyphers.

The La Aevum Detective Academy books also engage readers with history. Book one is set in Ancient Egypt, educating your reader about historical sites and monuments (including The Pyramids, Abu Simbel, Karnak, The Nile River and more), deities, language, and ancient culture, both through the story/case itself and fun facts accompanying the narrative.

I also envision the development of a series of support videos, which your young person might access. These short videos would provide visual and aural assistance, assisting readers to solve the clues, featuring demonstrations by ‘Thyme Ryder’. These would allow your ‘Junior Division’ detective to work independently through the case without consultation with the Constabulary (that’s you! The adults!)

Once the case is solved, a La Aevum Academy Report Card is available to download for your child, to acknowledge their completion of the casebook.
